The museum was founded in 1959 and is turned to deep reseach of Latgalian region and Rezekne area history and culture.

The museum offers an exposition that follows up the development of Latgalian ceramics from the Stone Age to our days.

The house hold goods, their simple and multitudinous forms are delight to the eye. The best traditions of Latgalian potters have taken deep roots and are of great help to the young craftsmen in creating outstanding samples of decorative ceramics when the form is enriched to answer the presentday needs.

The museum staff are preparing material for a new exposition about the history of the Rezekne town.

The exhibition building offers art shows that are of temporary character and are regulary changed.

The scientific library of the museum has a public reading room. Books may also be borrowed. Latgalian literature, ceramics and works of fine art are the basic collections of the museum.
